What do you love most about EVA Products?

Designed by women for women. With proper use & care, EVA Tie-ons, Shields & liners can last up to 3 years. EVA is designed to be modular, allowing the users to customize fit, absorbency to suit her unique needs as they change within her cycle from back-up protection, to heavy flow, to light discharge. Several design features have been included on some EVA products to be compatible with hygienic home-made solutions. (ie. Tie-on & shield are compatible with any clean, absorbent cloth that can be folded and placed under the security bands & pockets) – offering the EVA wearer even more options.  

What is so special about the EVA tie-on?

The Eva tie-on has been specifically designed to be “one size fits most” and accommodates a wide range of body sizes. Intentionally the traditional elasticized waist has been removed, for a more effective ‘slide adjustability’, which reduces the need for multiple waist sizes and increases the life of the product, that normally is shortened due to the single factor of failed elastic which dries out and cracks in the sun.

In addition to the breakthrough in the simple “one-size” technology, security bands in the crotch area of the underwear can accommodate leak proof shields and absorbent liners, securing them in place without shifting or ‘flip out’ during normal activities. These security bands replace the need for wings, snaps or sticky glue to affix feminine hygiene products in place. EVA tie-ons come in XS/S  & M/L. They can be worn with regular underwear on top, or by themselves.  Some customers sew additional ‘security bands’ inside their other pairs of underwear to increase the number of pairs that can securely hold the EVA shield & liners.  

What is different about the EVA Leak proof Shield?

Have you ever placed a plastic bag over your head? Why is this dangerous? Because you can’t breath with it on! Yet many other re-usable feminine products resort to locally available plastic sheet solutions to make a leak proof barrier. The EVA shield is constructed from high performance breathable leak proof material (MPV 10,000), that prevents fluid from leaking through, but allows vapour transfer (like your breath – or how your skins breaths) to pass through the shield.  This allows the wearer increased comfort without feelings of trapped humidity. This high tech fabric is protected with the outer layers of fabric.  

Is there something special in the design of the EVA liners?

Most other conventional re-usable feminine products looked like disposable winged pads! Would any women want to announce to all her neighbors such an intimate detail … “Everyone look here on my clothes-line!  Here are my washable menstrual pads!” … Our current EVA liners and shields are specifically designed to NOT to look like pads, so that they could be discretely and hygienically dried in the sun.

The EVA soft cotton liner is designed to be folded to increase absorbency, but due to it’s actual minimal sewn layers, it is very easy to wash and quickly dries. The EVA Ultra Absorbent liner is made of microfiber, is 7X more absorbent than cotton and retains extreme softness when properly laundered. The microfiber loops are nice when additional absorbency is needed, or can be worn without a shield on the extremely light days or when unsure of exactly when menses will start. It’s loop-like nature allows for rotation, on lighter days, to feel fresh anytime you want.  

Are EVA re-useable solutions Hygienic and Sanitary?

 Yes, when worn and washed properly,  EVA re-usables are a great hygienic solution. One important point of good menstrual hygiene is to keep the genital area clean and dry … and with such a simple liner of a 8.5 – 11 inch square cotton cloth, that can be tri-folded for increased absorbency, girls can afford the luxury of changing just the liner often to continue to feel fresh. 

 The simple nature of being able to fold up the liner to increase absorbency, also means that when unfolded it has minimal layers which allow for thorough cleaning. Other reusable designs incorporate the leak proof barrier and absorbent layer into a single piece by stitching them together. This makes cleaning and drying more difficult as there is only one side that is permeable to water and air.  

What Accessories are highly recommended?

Bucket & Soap

A designated bucket and soap to wash EVA reusables is very plain practical and are required if a complete solution is to be offered. Having a small designated covered container that is used for discrete soaking, washing, and storage of washable is highly recommended. Laundry grade soap is needed to effectively remove the soil and stains as water is not enough.

 Carry Bag

This little beauty had a lot of thought put into it!

The Eva clutch bag is definitely a keeper, and is extremely practical for when changing your EVA products at school or work. Often times there is little facilities to place your fresh supplies somewhere while you are changing. 

With a handy wrist strap, you can change confidently knowing your supplies will not get soiled from the ground. Just keep the bag around your wrist! 

Handy Tips:

• If there is no wash facilities when out from home, after changing into a fresh liner, use a plastic paper bag to hold your soiled liner until you get home. Place this plastic paper bag inside your EVA clutch bag. EVA liners are easy to wash after soaking for 30 min, so don't stress about washing them away from home. 
• Keep clean liners separate from soiled ones with different paper plastic bags inside the EVA clutch bag. It is great to be able to carry an extra change or two, to freshen whenever you need ... even when away from home all day!

Why the EVA Brand? Can’t we just make something local?

Transformation Textiles aims to help support all MHM initiatives. Transformation Textiles’ core products (EVA tie-on underwear and breathable leak proof shield) are most cost effective and efficient to manufacture in a commercial facility. By design, they are compatible with other reusable products (ie. absorbent liners) that could be made anywhere (even a girl could utilize available cloth to make such  a liner).

Where appropriate and when some form of local rural manufacturing is desired, the modular nature of the Eva line of products, allows for such industry. In Nairobi, we have partnered with Jacaranada Creations, so EVA customers may come to get additional underwear outfitted with security straps in any of their sewing centers.
